Bertone

Bertone is an Italian design and coachbuilding house founded in 1912 by Giovanni Bertone in Turin, becoming one of the main service providers to the European automobile industry until the 1980s. Throughout the Bertone story, the manufacturer provided bodywork and styling projects to major manufacturers such as Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo and BMW, consolidating its reputation for excellence in automobile design and specialized vehicle engineering. Between 1982 and 1989, the Bertone range marked the market with prestigious creations, notably redesigns and prototypes for luxury sedans and sports coupes, a period during which the Turin workshop maintained its leader status against rivals like Pininfarina and Zagato. The Bertone models of this decade reflect the characteristic style of the Italian house: refined lines, progressive aerodynamics and meticulous attention to finishing details, responding to the expectations of high-end manufacturers. The Bertone technical specification of its productions reveals pointed expertise in lightweight bodywork, integration of complex mechanical systems and prototype development, sectors in which the company had specialized since the 1960s. Historically located in Turin, the Bertone design center continued to influence aesthetic trends in the automotive sector during the 1980s, before experiencing economic difficulties that would mark the end of the century.
