BMC, founded in 1952 in Great Britain through the merger of Austin Motor Company and Morris Motors, became one of Europe's largest post-war automakers, profoundly shaping twentieth-century automotive history. BMC's history spans more than two decades of major innovations, with the launch of revolutionary models like the Mini in 1959, designed by Alec Issigonis, which redefined the urban compact car segment and remains a timeless classic. The BMC group quickly expanded its presence throughout Europe and beyond, encompassing the Austin, Morris, MG, Riley and Wolseley brands, and positioned itself as a direct competitor to Rootes Group and Standard-Triumph in the popular and sports vehicle sectors. The BMC range covered a wide spectrum of segments, from economical city cars to family sedans and sports cars, generating impressive production volumes that peaked at over 500,000 vehicles per year in the mid-1960s. Among the iconic models were the Austin A40, Morris Oxford and MG MGB, equipped with high-performance specification sheets for their era, with engines ranging from 1.2 to 3.8 liters depending on variants. BMC also distinguished itself through international expansion, establishing production facilities in Belgium, Australia and South Africa, before experiencing a period of industrial and financial turbulence in the 1970s, ultimately leading to its merger with Leyland Motors in 1968, giving birth to British Leyland.
