Fisker Automotive, founded in 2007 by Danish designer Henrik Fisker, is an American manufacturer specializing in high-end electric and hybrid vehicles, based in California and a direct competitor to Tesla and Porsche in the electric luxury segment. Fisker's history begins with the ambition to create automobiles combining avant-garde design and clean technology, positioning the brand as a premium alternative to traditional manufacturers. In 2011-2012, the period covered by our documents, Fisker Automotive markets the Karma, its first emblematic model: a plug-in hybrid coupe equipped with a 2.0-liter Ecotec thermal engine combined with an electric system developed in partnership with supplier A123 Systems, offering 68 kilometers of electric range and combined power of 403 horsepower. Karma production takes place in Finland at Valmet Automotive facilities, while Fisker concentrates its design and final assembly operations in the United States, reflecting a complex vertical integration strategy. The Fisker range, though limited at launch, embodies a vision of electrified luxury destined for wealthy clientele sensitive to ecology and performance, with pricing positioning the Karma beyond 100,000 dollars, a clearly differentiated segment from emerging compact electric sedans. Initial group ambitions also included development of more accessible electric models, though these projects remained in prototype form during this period. The Fisker Karma technical specification marks a pioneering generation in the democratization of premium plug-in hybrids, prefiguring the future evolution of the automotive industry toward electrification.
