FSO Polonez Phase 1 1978 - 1991

The FSO Polonez is an emblematic Polish compact saloon, produced from 1975 to 2002, which marked Eastern European automotive history as the first flagship model of the FSO manufacturer and symbol of the Polish automotive sector. The FSO Polonez history begins with its launch in 1975, the result of an improved Fiat 125p license, offering Eastern European motorists an accessible alternative to Western vehicles with refined design and proven mechanics. Available in several versions (saloon, estate, Polonez 1500 sports coupe), the model evolved over FSO Polonez generations with progressive improvements in safety, traction and comfort, notably adopting fuel injection and more modern engines from the 1980s-1990s onwards. The FSO Polonez technical sheet displayed powertrains ranging from 1.3 to 1.9 liters in petrol, with moderate but market-appropriate power ratings, positioning the car directly against the Lada Niva and other popular Eastern Central European saloons. Although production ended in the early 2000s, the Polonez remains a very present automotive classic as a FSO Polonez used car on the used market in Poland and Eastern Europe, symbol of robustness and mechanical simplicity appreciated by collectors and vintage car enthusiasts.
