Holden

Holden, an Australian automobile manufacturer founded in 1948 at Fishermens Bend in Melbourne, became one of the country's largest national brands for more than seven decades. Initially created as an automobile division of General Motors Australia, Holden's history reflects the desire to produce vehicles adapted to Australian roads and climate conditions, with iconic models such as the FJ Holden (1948), the Commodore (launched in 1978), and the Monaro. The Holden lineup covered all segments of the automotive market, from family sedans to commercial vehicles and sports cars, in direct competition with manufacturers such as Ford Australia and Toyota, while also exporting to New Zealand and other regional markets. From the 1950s onward, Holden became an Australian national symbol with strong presence in motorsport racing and dominant market share, at certain periods exceeding 50 percent of local automotive sales. Historic production facilities located at Port Melbourne and Fishermens Bend employed thousands of workers until their gradual closure between 2017 and 2021. Consulting Holden brochures and technical specifications from our catalog allows you to discover the evolution of its engines, designs, and technologies over this major period of the Australian automotive industry, before the brand's definitive discontinuation in 2021 following General Motors' global restructuring.
