Mercury

Mercury is an American automotive brand founded in 1938 by Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company, positioned as an intermediate Mercury manufacturer between popular Ford and luxury Lincoln in the North American market. From its launch in 1939, the brand offers carefully finished vehicles with superior performance, targeting the upper-middle class in direct competition with Oldsmobile and Buick. Mercury's history is part of Ford's multi-brand strategy, with iconic models such as the Mercury Eight, the Monterey launched in 1952, and especially the mythical Cougar unveiled in 1967, a muscle-car and pony-car competitor to the Chevrolet Camaro. During the 1960s and 1970s, the Mercury range expanded with sports coupes and family sedans, with production facilities primarily based in Michigan and Ohio, supplying the American and Canadian markets. After the oil shocks of the 1970s, the Mercury manufacturer adapted its portfolio to compact and fuel-efficient vehicles, while maintaining its presence in the SUV and minivan segments in the 1990s-2000s with models such as the Sable and Grand Marquis. The brand gradually disappeared from the market starting in the 2000s, with Ford deciding to cease production in 2010, ending over 70 years of automotive history marked by innovation, distinctive design and a loyal customer base in North America.
