Simca

Simca, a French manufacturer founded in 1934 by Henri Théodore Pigozzi, established itself as a major player in the French automobile industry for nearly five decades, rivaling Renault and Peugeot in the popular and mid-range segments. Simca's history began with the acquisition of Fiat production licenses, allowing the group to assemble and improve Italian vehicles for the French market, before progressively developing its own Simca range from the 1950s with emblematic models such as the Aronde (1951-1958), the Ariane and the Océane. The Simca manufacturer expanded its strategic portfolio in 1963 with the acquisition of Vedette and in 1968 with the takeover of Chrysler France, which diversified its production between Nanterre and Poissy and consolidated its presence in the compact and family saloon segments. Simca models from the 1970s, such as the 1100 (1961-1982), the 1501 and the 1307, testify to an upmarket shift and a certain technological boldness with their modern engines and competitive interior space. The Simca technical sheet reveals a strategy of varied motorizations, covering displacements from 600 cc to 1.8 liters, adapted to the tax and energy constraints of the era. Until its integration into the Chrysler group then Talbot in 1981, Simca focused its commercial efforts on practical and reliable vehicles, regularly capturing 8 to 12% of the French automobile market and exporting its vehicles to Europe and Africa.
