BMW E1 / E2

The BMW E1/E2 represents one of the most ambitious attempts by the Bavarian manufacturer to democratize electric mobility, with a visionary project that marked the 1990s in Europe. Launched in the prototype and demonstration phase from 1991, the BMW E1/E2 model embodies BMW's philosophy in the face of emerging environmental challenges, positioned as a compact electric urban vehicle intended to reduce polluting emissions. The history of BMW E1/E2 begins with the E1, a revolutionary two-seater prototype powered by lead batteries, followed by the more refined E2 with NiCd batteries, both tested intensively in a limited fleet until the mid-1990s.
