Studebaker
Studebaker, founded in 1852 in South Bend, Indiana, by the Studebaker brothers, is a historic American automaker that left its mark on the automotive industry from the 19th to the 20th century. The Studebaker story truly began in the 1900s with the production of motorized vehicles, before the company became one of the three largest independent American automakers alongside Hudson and Nash until the 1950s. The Studebaker lineup covered every segment of the market, from family sedans to sporty coupes, with iconic models such as the Studebaker Champion launched in 1939, the Starlight Coupe of 1947 with its revolutionary styling, and the Avanti of 1962 fitted with powerful V8 engines. Between 1920 and 1960, Studebaker produced more than three million vehicles at its main South Bend plant, before merging with Packard in 1954 to form the Studebaker-Packard Corporation, an attempt to join forces in the face of the growing dominance of General Motors and Chrysler. Studebaker models stood out for their bold styling and technological innovations, particularly in aerodynamic design and engine technology, positioning the automaker as a serious competitor to the mainstream brands. After various reorganizations and changes in leadership, Studebaker ceased automobile production in 1966, leaving behind a legacy of vehicles collected and restored by enthusiasts around the world. The Studebaker spec sheet reveals automobiles of classic architecture, with engines ranging from four-cylinders to V8s, covering a wide range of displacements and power outputs tailored to the needs of American consumers of the era.
