Trabant 601 1964 - 1990

The Trabant 601 is an icon of East German automobiles, a symbol of accessible mobility and technical ingenuity for generations of drivers in Eastern Europe. Launched in 1964 by VEB Sachsenring, this compact sedan marked the Trabant 601 history by becoming the most produced vehicle in the GDR, with nearly 2.8 million units manufactured until 1991. The Trabant 601 model experienced several notable evolutions during its three decades of existence: its recognizable trapezoidal silhouette, its Duroplast body panels (innovative composite material), and its air-cooled two-stroke engine brought fame to this small economical car compared to its Western competitors like the Citroën Ami or Fiat 500.
