Xiaomi
Xiaomi, founded in 2010 by Lei Jun in Beijing, has established itself as a major Chinese manufacturer by diversifying its portfolio beyond smartphones to progressively integrate the automotive sector. Xiaomi's history in automobiles truly begins in 2021 with the creation of Xiaomi EV, a division dedicated to electric vehicles, marking this tech giant's strategic entry into a market undergoing full transformation. Xiaomi has unveiled its first prototypes in 2023 and announced an initial investment of 10 billion dollars to develop its range of premium electric vehicles, positioning the brand directly against competitors like Tesla and BYD that dominate the premium and mainstream segments respectively. Xiaomi models announced for 2024-2025 target the segment of electric sedans and SUVs, with production capacity planned in Beijing and Xiaomi specification sheets emphasizing the integration of advanced onboard technologies, extended autonomy and connected infotainment systems inherited from the group's technological expertise. With an established IoT ecosystem of over one billion connected devices and a global presence in 90 countries, Xiaomi applies its usual strategy of rapid innovation and competitive pricing to automobiles, aiming to capture significant market share in the Chinese electric market before possible international expansion from 2025.
