Proton

Proton is a Malaysian automotive manufacturer founded in 1983, becoming Malaysia's first national manufacturer with significant presence in Southeast Asia and beyond. Proton's history is characterized by a strategy of key acquisitions and partnerships: after acquiring Lotus in 1996, the group strengthened itself through the acquisition of Geely (Malaysia) in 2017, then through a strategic alliance with Geely and Volvo in 2020 which structured Proton Holdings. Proton models cover all automotive market segments, from the economical segment with the Proton Persona and Proton Satria, to family vehicles such as the Proton Exora and Proton X90 launched in 2023, not forgetting popular SUVs and crossovers like the Proton X50 (introduced in 2020) and the Proton X70. The Proton range has progressively modernized since 1992, moving from the emblematic Proton Saga to current technologies with turbocharged engines and connected infotainment systems. With production centered on Malaysia and significant market share in its home country where Proton directly competes with Perodua and international manufacturers, the Proton manufacturer pursues regional expansion by focusing on electrification and innovation. Proton technical specifications reflect the evolution toward more efficient motorizations, notably 1.5L turbo engines and scheduled first electric vehicles, positioning Proton as a major player in the Asian automotive market with growing export ambitions.
