Fiat Grizzly: The Bear That Wants to Wake Up Fiat... and Revive Chrysler

It took guts. After the Grande Panda, which put Fiat back on the map for affordable family cars, the Italian brand is showing its claws and naming its new SUV… Grizzly. Bigger than a panda, necessarily. Officially presented on June 3, 2026, this compact SUV even arrives in a double variant, and its destiny could be written well beyond Europe. Buckle up : here's the story of a bear that smells like global strategy.

Two bears for the same territory

Fiat didn't unveil just one, but two models at once : the Grizzly, a classic SUV with vertical and generous proportions, and the Grizzly Fastback, its coupe variant with a sleek silhouette. The two share most of their bodywork, but target different customer bases.

The first focuses on family practicality, spaciousness and modularity ; the second prioritizes style and a more dynamic profile, with a cargo volume optimized in length — ideal for travel and leisure enthusiasts.

Both models measure less than 4.5 meters in length, positioning them at the heart of the C segment, facing references like the Dacia Bigster or Duster. Fiat announces a trunk "among the best in its class" as well as a modernized cabin, in line with the recent upmarket shift. Olivier François, head of Fiat, sums up the ambition : repositioning the brand "at the heart of the family mobility market".

Beneath the fur, a well-known platform

No surprises on the technical side : the Grizzly is based on Stellantis' Smart Car platform, already used for the Grande Panda, Citroën C3 and Opel Frontera. A foundation designed to optimize costs, facilitate global production and guarantee competitive prices, rather than target sporting performance — a choice consistent with the model's positioning.

On the powertrain side, Fiat announces a wide range : petrol, mild hybrid and 100 % electric. This diversity will allow it to adapt to different regulations and international market expectations.

The LED light signature adopts the styling codes of the Grande Panda, with a modernized and easily recognizable visual identity.

An industrial project on a global scale

It's on the industrial front that the project takes on its full scope. Fiat clearly assumes a global strategy : the Grizzly will be produced on multiple sites to adapt to key markets, notably Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.

Commercial launch is scheduled for the second half of 2026 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with a later arrival in Latin America.

Some sources mention partial production in Morocco, which would be consistent with Stellantis' industrial strategy in the region. However, since this information has not been officially confirmed, it should be considered with caution.

What if the bear saved Chrysler ?

This is arguably the most strategic point. According to several American media outlets, including Automotive News, the Grizzly and its Fastback version could be adapted for the North American market under the Chrysler brand.

During Stellantis' Capital Markets Day on May 21, 2026, derived versions may have been presented internally, possibly named "Arrow" and "Arrow Cross", with a price positioning under 30,000 dollars — a key segment in the United States.

Nothing is official yet. Design director Ralph Gilles moreover insisted that it would not be a simple rebadge, but genuinely differentiated models.

Note : these future SUVs should not be confused with the Chrysler Airflow, a more upmarket model based on another platform (STLA One), with positioning around 40,000 dollars.

If this project is confirmed, the Grizzly could play a central role in relaunching a Chrysler brand that is losing momentum, today almost limited to the Pacifica.

Conclusion

With the Grizzly and its Fastback variant, Fiat is not just expanding its range : the brand is deploying a genuine global strategy, from the European C segment to the North American market via Chrysler. Pricing, trim levels and detailed equipment remain to be discovered, but one thing is certain : Fiat is showing great ambitions for this new model. While awaiting the arrival of the Grizzly and its American cousins, find the Fiat brochures and catalogues as well as Chrysler brochures on Brochure Auto, and consult the Chrysler user manuals to explore current ranges.
