Lada is the historic automobile manufacturer of the Soviet Union, created in 1966 under the name AutoVAZ in Togliatti, Russia, which marked automotive history with the launch of the Lada 2101 in 1970. Lada's history is intertwined with that of popular Soviet automobiles: based on a Fiat 124 license, the brand dominated the USSR and Eastern European markets for decades, positioned against competitors such as Moskvitch and Skoda.
