Alpine A390: the electric fastback sports car that reinvents Dieppe

There was a time when the Alpine name conjured up above all small blue berlinettes, light as feathers and formidable in the mountains. The Dieppe brand has grown considerably since, without ever disavowing that spirit. Proof with the A390, an unclassifiable automotive object: a five-seat "sport fastback," 100% electric, and above all the very first Alpine with all-wheel drive. A small revolution for a brand that has made lightness and agility a religion.

Dieppe goes electric without renouncing its DNA

It's impossible to talk about the A390 without a word about its birthplace. The car is assembled in Dieppe, in the Alpine Jean Rédélé Manufacture — the same hall that sees the A110 born. A detail heavy with meaning: Alpine did not entrust its newcomer to an anonymous factory, but inscribed it in the direct continuity of its history. And what a history: victory at the Monte-Carlo Rally as early as 1971 with the Berlinette A110, first world rally title in 1973, triumph at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1978 with the A442B, then a winning return in Formula 1™ and Endurance in the 2020s.

The A390 claims this racing heritage loud and clear. It takes up the philosophy — the famous "lightness" dear to the house — and the visual codes, with its emblematic hues and its little French flag proudly placed on the rear pillar. A way of asserting that an electric Alpine remains, above all, an Alpine.

Three motors and four-wheel drive: a major first

That's where the A390 really breaks new ground. Under the bodywork hides an unprecedented architecture with three electric motors: one at the front, two at the rear. This configuration enables all-wheel drive — a first for Alpine — but especially the Alpine Active Torque Vectoring, an active torque management wheel by wheel that keeps the car precise and playful in the corners, much like an A110.

Two versions are on the agenda. The A390 GT delivers 400 hp (295 kW) and 661 Nm, enough to dispatch the 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. Above that, the A390 GTS, expected in the course of 2026, pushes the cursors to 470 hp (345 kW), 824 Nm and 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Pure sports car figures, served by an Alpine Sport chassis with hydraulic bump stops, six-piston calipers at the front and custom-developed Michelin tires. The weight distribution, nearly perfect (49/51), betrays a balance obsession typical of the house.

89 kWh and 555 km: the sports car that knows how to travel

Where the A390 sets itself apart from many sports cars is through its assumed versatility. Its 89 kWh battery gives it up to 555 km of WLTP range, and its fast-charging power climbs to 190 kW in direct current — enough to recover the essentials during a coffee break. It also accepts bidirectional charging (V2G and V2L, to power the home or devices), a heat pump, and an optional 22 kW charger.

Above all, the A390 remains a true five-seater with a generous trunk: from 532 liters to 1,643 liters with the rear seat folded, with a double floor as an accessory. Tow hitch, roof bars, ski racks: the accessories list is that of an assumed family car. A sports car with which you really go away on weekends, skis or bikes on the roof — the A110 spirit, in an everyday version.

A pilot's cockpit, a music lover's lounge

On board, Alpine takes care of the sporty atmosphere while beefing up the technology. The Feel@One cockpit places the driver at the controls with an exclusive steering wheel inspired by F1™, fitted with an Overtake button, Launch Control and driving mode selectors. The new Track mode and the Alpine Telemetrics app record lap times, lateral Gs and performance data to progress on circuit. Facing the driver, a fully digital interface and a 12-inch center screen with integrated Google system.

Refinement is not forgotten: Alpine bucket seats signed Sabelt® (with optional carbon shell), two-tone trim mixing Alcantara® and Nappa leather, customizable ambient lighting, and especially a Devialet® audio system with 13 speakers to transform every journey into a concert hall. Sportiness, without renouncing comfort.

Sculpted by the wind, designed to last

Style-wise, the A390 embraces an elegant fastback silhouette, "sculpted by the wind," with its hood blade inherited from motorsport and its Alpine light signature at the front and rear. Six colors are in the catalog, from Alpine Vision Blue to Matte Thunder Gray, and the choice is between 20-inch Crystal wheels or 21-inch forged Snowflake rims. The battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 160,000 km, and the provision of driver assistance systems is plethoric (32 safety systems, 360° camera, LED Matrix headlights).

With the A390, Alpine pulls off a neat feat: offering a desirable and versatile electric car without diluting an ounce of its sporty temperament.
