Imagine the best-selling car in an entire country. Not a niche model, not a thrill-seeking sports car: the all-around champion, the one you spot at every street corner. In China, this car exists, it's electric, it's tiny, and it's called Geely Xingyuan. Here it comes, setting its sights on Europe, rebranded as EX2. And its pitch boils down to one line: deliver modern electric power at the price of a small petrol car.

A discreet giant named Geely

The name Geely may not ring a bell for most European consumers, yet the group is a heavyweight on the global stage. It owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Lynk & Co, the premium brand Zeekr, and a stake in smart. In other words, a good chunk of "European" electric vehicles are already rolling, behind the scenes, on Geely technologies.

Until now, the manufacturer had been working under the radar behind its satellite brands. With the EX2, it's finally playing the card of its own name on the Old Continent. A logical bet: why let all the spotlight shine on subsidiaries when you possess, at home, the biggest commercial winner in the largest automotive market on the planet?

Xingyuan, EX2, E2: one car, three names

The little Geely changes its label depending on the market. In China, it goes by Xingyuan (under the Geome sub-brand). In the United Kingdom, it takes the name EX2, expected at the end of August 2026. And across continental Europe, it will be sold under the name E2. Three names, one and the same car: just remember that it's the same sales champion arriving everywhere.

The success is anything but theoretical. The Geely Xingyuan was China's best-selling car in 2025, and it held onto its crown in the opening months of 2026 with over 160,000 units sold between January and May. At that scale, we're no longer talking about a simple new model, but an industrial phenomenon.

Small in size, generous in content

Behind its rounded mini-SUV appearance, the EX2 measures 4.13 metres: the ideal footprint for the city, with just enough space for a family. The smooth silhouette, sleek headlights, and curved surfaces give it a touch of premium appeal that stands out from its price positioning.

The mechanics are straightforward. An 85 kW (114 horsepower) electric motor drives the rear wheels and covers 0 to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds — more than adequate for nipping through traffic. The 39.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery promises 317 kilometres of WLTP range, a solid figure for everyday use. Inside, a large 14.6-inch touchscreen handles the essentials, while the 375-litre boot is complemented by a clever front storage compartment ("frunk") of 70 litres.

The real argument: the price

Where the EX2 truly hits hard is on the price tag. In the United Kingdom, it's announced below the 20,000 pound mark, and the European pricing should follow suit. At this level, the little Geely goes head-to-head with Europe's wave of affordable electric cars, while banking on colossal production volumes that allow it to keep costs tight.

On this front, the EX2 won't be alone. It faces a flood of accessible electric vehicles: the Dacia Spring, the Citroën ë-C3, the Leapmotor T03, and the BYD Dolphin Surf are all after the same buyer — someone who wants to go electric without breaking the bank. To maintain these prices over time, Chinese automakers are also setting up production in Europe itself — Geely is drawing on production capacity in Spain, a way to bring the car closer to its future customers and offset tariffs.

It remains to be seen how the European public will welcome a brand still largely unknown here, in a context where competition from China grows denser each month. But with the Xingyuan's sales track record, Geely isn't arriving as a timid outsider: it's landing with the car that hundreds of thousands of motorists have already chosen.

The Geely EX2 marks the triumphant return of a giant under its own name. To follow the brand's arrival in Europe, visit Brochure Auto for all available Geely brochures and catalogues as launches roll out — a chance to compare, in detail and free of charge, the brand's latest offerings.
